Assistant Professor Grade - I
I work on the theoretical and computational modelling of complex systems, with a focus on nonlinear dynamics, network science, and machine learning. My research explores how large-scale behaviours emerge from local interactions in systems ranging from biology and climate to social and engineered networks. I develop frameworks that combine analytical tools and data-driven methods to understand, predict, and control these dynamics. Before joining IISER Pune, I held positions at IISER Thiruvananthapuram, CSIR-NCL Pune, and Bar-Ilan University, Israel.
PhD Student
I completed my Bachelor's degree from the University of Kerala and my Master's from NIT Nagpur before joining Dr. Chandrakala Meena's lab, where I am currently doing my PhD. My work focuses on quantum networks within the framework of Continuous-Time Quantum Walks, exploring how complex network structures affect quantum dynamics and preserve quantum properties under the influence of decoherence.
PhD Student
As an avid learner, I spend a chunk of my time studying different dynamical systems under the influence of higher-order interactions, which go beyond the conventional pairwise approach. These systems vary from biological to social or can be oscillatory as well. Using different mathematical tools, such as simplicial complexes and hypergraphs, along with simulation techniques, I try to gain deeper insights into the mechanistic behavior of dynamical systems, thereby laying down an interdisciplinary research landscape.
PhD Student
I am Robert Rai, a PhD scholar at IISER Pune, specializing in Non-Linear Dynamics and Complex Networks. My research primarily focuses on the dynamics of misinformation spread and the development of intervention strategies within social systems. In addition, I explore thermoacoustic instabilities in combustion systems, with an emphasis on understanding the underlying non-linear phenomena. My work also integrates Machine Learning techniques to analyze system behaviors across diverse non-linear domains.
Integrated PhD Student
I am an Integrated PhD student at IISER Pune and a member of the Complex Network Dynamics Lab. My research focuses on the stability of large dynamical systems exploring how complex interactions shape robustness, resilience, and transitions in nature-inspired systems. I completed my BSc from Moolji Jaitha College, Jalgaon. I'm passionate about uncovering the hidden mechanisms that govern large interconnected systems,whether in ecosystems, engineered networks or abstract models. Beyond academia, I find creative expression through photography, stargazing, travel, and writing. These passions give me perspective and fuel my curiosity about the interconnectedness of systems, both natural and human-made.
JRF Fellow
I'm Athul Mohan, currently working as a Junior Research Fellow under Dr. Chandrakala Meena. My research focuses on using machine learning to classify dynamical states, predict critical transitions, and application of machine learning beyond physics. I hold a master's degree from Mahatma Gandhi University (2024) and a bachelor's from Azim Premji University (2021). Beyond research, I enjoy building hardware based solutions using microcontroller platforms. Some of my projects include a battery optimization systems, controlled experimental environments, simulator for competitive air pistol training (similar to SCATT), and a custom portable pager. I'm drawn to anything that scratches the itch to solve a problem, even beyond the areas I've mentioned. Whether it's writing code, conducting research, designing experiments, or putting together hardware solutions, if there's a challenge to figure out, I'm in.
