Search for dark matter production in association with the Z′ boson at the LHC in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV using CMS open data

This analysis presents a search for Dark Matter (DM) particles using events with a Z′ heavy gauge boson and a large missing transverse momentum. The analyzed data were the Open Data collected by the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at the LHC in 2012 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 11.6 fb−1 at √s= 8 TeV. One simplified benchmark model was used for interpreting the data, the so called Dark Higgs model, no evidence of dark matter candidates is found. 95% confidence level limits are set on both Z′ and dark matter masses. This is the first search for DM particles produced in association with a Z′ heavy gauge boson decaying to a pair of muons.
